10 Things

Now, I love movies. Especially quirky, clever ones, with their own pace and ideas. One of my favourite contemporary actors who seemed to always be exactly in that kind of movies was Heath Ledger. Of course, "Brokeback Mountain" comes to mind, and how great he was in that sad and difficult role, so good that you could hardly think of him and only of the character. But he was great in many other roles: especially, Monster's Ball (never such a short role was more striking, and becomes more impressive when you think he was sharing the scene with Peter Boyle and Billy Bob Thornton), and "The Brothers Grimm" (Terry Gilliam's grotesque and subversive take on fairy-tales). Tow more examples are in cinemas now, "The Dark Knight" and "I'm Not There". I have no doubt that there would have been many, many more.
However, one of my favourite movies is a silly comedy called "10 Things I Hate About You". It's one of those movies that turn out not to be that silly when you take a good look at them: inspired by "The Taming of the Shrew", it's funny and sharp, with some quirky wit and great one-liners. Superficially, Heath impersonated the "hearthrob", but he couldn't be more distant from this stereotypical character. His performance is endearing, funny and charming. And with a bit of singing in it :-). Here he is:
